Minister Wong – call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
- We will not be bystanders. Immediate ceasefire now.
- Nothing can justify violence towards any civilians. Anyone held captive must be released.
- End the siege that is preventing civilians in Gaza from accessing food, fuel and water and increase our humanitarian assistance.
- Call for a path to real and lasting peace for Palestinian and Israeli people.
Nothing can ever justify the killing or maiming of children. We condemn the catastrophic violence that is currently unfolding in Gaza and Israel in the strongest terms.
We are calling on our government to hear us and act.
All children have the right to a life free from violence and fear and it is the collective responsibility of the global community to protect that right. Any delay in bringing this devastating conflict to an end will have profound consequences for children that will endure long after the immediate crisis.

Senator David Pocock tabled this petition in the Senate on 5 December 2023, signed by tens of thousands of people. This symbol of our collective action became part of the official parliamentary records.
On 13 December 2023, Prime Minister Albanese joined New Zealand and Canada in calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. We welcome this call as a critical step forward in pushing for peace, and also welcome the Australian Government backing this call with action by voting for a resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire at the United Nations General Assembly.
